When you set up a budget for the first time, the message “Create budget” is displayed. Follow the simple steps below to set up and automate your monthly budget.

You can also use the Mint app instead of the downloadable template to streamline the process. Household Budget Template (.XLSX) Budgeting with the Mint Mobile App In the “Budget Summary” you can see your spend versus income, a spend breakdown by category, and more. The Budget Summary tab is automatically populated with the information you entered earlier. The “Budget Summary” gives you a comprehensive overview of your current finances. Once you’ve added your expenses, click the Budget Summary tab. This way you can easily switch to an automated budget if you want. Note that the categories included in our household budget worksheet are the same as those in the Mint app. You’ll find categories including basic household expenses like your mortgage payment, furnishings and home insurance, as well as utilities and children’s expenses. On the Expense Entries tab, fill in the ESTIMATED and ACTUAL columns just as you did for your income.

Next, you need to navigate to the Expense Inputs tab, which is located just to the right of Income Inputs. Here you can add how much you earn from your various income sources, including your paycheck, investments, reimbursements, and more. Once you see this page, fill in the “ESTIMATE” and “ACTUAL” columns. You can start by clicking on the Income Entries tab at the bottom of the table, which will bring up a list of income categories.
